Video: Melissa's HAE Story

For decades, the rare disease Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) overwhelmed Melissa’s days. But today she’s making up for lost time in her new role as a grandmother.

Story

Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) causes hard-to-predict swelling episodes that can be life-threatening. Thanks to advances in medical science, more patients living with HAE are able to get an accurate diagnosis and access appropriate treatment.

Melissa is one of them. She credits a clinical trial as a turning point in how she manages HAE. For too long, the condition ruled her life and limited her ability to show up as she wanted to for her daughter, who’s now a Mom herself. Being a grandma gave Melissa a second chance.

“It’s a double dip for me because I get to experience so much more – truly experience it. I’m not sick. I’m not expecting to be sick. I’m not depressed. Just a trip to the mailbox with (my granddaughter) is glorious,” she said.
