Healthier Environment

Delivering on Our Promise to Preserve a Healthier Environment

Our commitment to a healthier world means delivering for both people and our planet. We take this responsibility seriously, and our promise is to continue to further build environmental considerations into our business so we can deliver a sustainable world for the next century and beyond. CSL views environmental stewardship as its responsibility and an opportunity to build healthier and more sustainable communities.

CSL recognises that responsible management and efficient use of natural resources is key to the company’s sustainable growth and its ability to deliver an efficient and reliable supply of life-saving medicines. We support meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement to avoid the worst impacts of climate change as identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Energy

In recognition of the role that we can play in contributing to global efforts to address climate change and support the transition to a low-carbon future, CSL has made a commitment to minimise our climate change impact by reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. CSL accomplish this by undertaking initiatives that reduce emissions internally (Scope 1 and 2) and across our supply chain (Scope 3). CSL's efforts under this area of focus are measured against our near-term science-based target.

FY2026 FY2025
Energy Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42%
(from a FY 2021 base year)
28% reduction 14% reduction
73.1% of CSL's suppliers by emissions covering Scope 3 categories: purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, and downstream transportation and distribution , will have science-based targets 64% 54%

Waste

CSL's waste reduction commitments aim to serve as a tangible and transparent roadmap towards reducing our impact. CSL is focused on diverting waste from landfill through reducing, reusing, recycling and composting.

 FY2026   FY2025
Waste Divert more than 90% of manufacturing waste from landfill, i.e., 'Zero Waste' at all manufacturing sites 87% 89%

Minimise percentage of waste incinerated (if site is already zero waste) 15% 15%

Water

CSL has continued to advance its environmental strategy in the focus area of water with the development of water reduction commitments.  CSL focus on identifying, prioritising and implementing water reduction initiatives at sites in water stressed areas.

Water Achieve zero percent absolute growth in water use, from a FY2021 baseline at three priority manufacturing sites, Kankakee (U.S.), Broadmeadows and Tullamarine (Australia), which are in regions forecast to be water stressed by 2030 32% growth 30% growth

Biodiversity

With a refocus on strategic priorities across the broader CSL organisation, detailed biodiversity impact assessments at manufacturing sites were not completed during the reporting year.

Environmental Management

To meet industry and regulatory standards at its facilities, CSL uses an enterprise-wide Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System. This system covers compliance with government regulations and commitments for continuous improvement of health and safety in the workplace and minimising the negative effects of operations on the environment.

CSL continues to mature its overall environmental sustainability program and embedding environmental considerations into work practices. Key environmental principles are driven by processes like the 'EHS by Design' program (and the operational identification of environmental aspects and impacts), in alignment with ISO 14001 principles, to further reduce CSL's potential impact on the environment and local communities.
