The start of a new school year is a milestone moment for children and teens. It’s also a good time for parents to educate school staff about needs that could arise for students who manage chronic health conditions.

The infographic below outlines three steps toward a more collaborative and informed relationship with teachers, the school nurse and other school employees. If a child has a rare disease, a parent has the extra responsibility to educate others about a condition they may have never heard of. It’s why rare disease patients have embraced a rare animal – the zebra – as their icon.
