Marcus de Alwis, CSL Seqirus General Counsel, has been a part of the CSL family for over 13 years. Prior to being appointed CSL Seqirus General Counsel in August 2021, Marcus led the CSL Seqirus Legal function in Asia Pacific and was a key member of the team responsible for advancing a number of transformative transactions for the company. So what’s made Marcus want to stay with the company for more than a decade? Marcus sees CSL Seqirus as more than just a company, but a mission in public health.
He shared, “Our mission in protecting public health connects back to everything we do. I think having that mission in public health is consistent with that and is going to be important to keep in mind as we continue to advance our strategic objectives. We're an organization that fights influenza and the burden that brings.”
Of our five core company values, Marcus personally resonates most with collaboration. As General Counsel, Marcus feels collaboration is essential to everything he and his team do every day. Within the organization and also externally, working together effectively to advance shared goals is critical. His team may consist of lawyers, but they actually think of themselves as legal partners, dedicated to working within the organization towards a shared goal of protecting public health.
Marcus explained, “being a partner and collaborating effectively go hand in hand and for me, collaboration and building relationships is critical to my role in the organization, but also in terms of how I engage with the world.”
