"Make Good Choices"

A sickle cell disease advocate asks CSL scientists to drive progress for patients.

Story

Kyle Smith remembers being a teen and hearing his mother telling say “make good choices,” when he left the house.

Smith, a sickle cell disease patient and an advocate for others with the condition, borrowed her phrase when he met with a group of more than 100 CSL scientists earlier this year. He asked the researchers to pour their energies into finding new and better treatments for sickle cell disease, a life-limiting condition that causes severe pain and organ damage.

“Choose to fight for a marginalized group that deserves autonomy and to have an abundance of choices when it comes to their treatment and care,” Smith said during the virtual event.
