If you’re in a battle, you want “The Rock” on your side.
Action hero and former pro wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just joined The Fight Is In Us campaign, a broad coalition of organizations, including COVID-19 survivors, that urges plasma donations. The blood plasma of people who recovered from the novel coronavirus contains antibodies and can be used as medicine for those who are struggling with the deadly virus.
Here’s what Johnson said in a 30-second public service announcement:
We’re going through a really tough time right now all around the world. And COVID-19 is still impacting so many people. If you survived it, then you’re the heroes we need. The plasma that’s in your blood can literally save lives. But we have to act fast. So please donate. You fought for your life. Now, let’s work together to take down COVID-19. To donate plasma, go to www.TheFightIsInUs.org.
In addition to direct transfusions, donated plasma is needed in the development of a potential treatment called a “hyperimmune” immunoglobulin. CSL Behring and other global plasma leaders are working together on that potential treatment through the CoVIg-19 Plasma Alliance. A clinical trial is expected in the next few months.
